Using State and Federal Law to Protect Debtors from Collections Harassment

Overview: This training will review debtor rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and its state analog, the Rosenthal Act. We will discuss tools and strategies for keeping clients from being harassed by creditors. We will also discuss in particular the new California legislation (effective January 1, 2014) and its expansion of consumer rights in relation to third-party "debt buyers."
