Come celebrate the historic confirmation of Justice James M. Humes, the first openly gay justice to be appointed to the California Court of Appeals.
Justice Humes was appointed an Associate Justice
of the California
Court of Appeal, First Appellate District, Division Four by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. He was sworn into office on December 20, 2012. Before joining the Court of Appeal, Justice Humes served as Governor Brown's Executive Secretary for Legal Affairs, Administration, and Policy. Prior to that, Justice Humes served as the chief deputy in the Attorney General's office when Governor Brown served as California's Attorney General from 2007 to 2011. Justice Humes began his career in public service in the Colorado Attorney General's Office.
