Cap off your weekend with a glass of wine with BALIF, to meet and greet Dallas, Texas County Judge Tonya Parker. Judge Parker is visiting the Bay Area as a panelist at the Ronald George Distinguished lecture series presented by Golden Gate University, and sponsored by BALIF. Parker became the first openly lesbian county judge elected in Dallas in 2010. In February 2012, she made headlines when she announced that she refused to perform marriage ceremonies until lesbian and gay couples could marry. "It's kind of oxymoronic for me to perform ceremonies that can't be performed for me, so I'm not going to do it," Parker said in the statement. "I do not perform [marriages] because it is not an equal application of the law. Period." Judge Parker said she now passes marriage ceremonies on to other judges so they can be completed.
Please join BALIF as we toast Judge Parker and welcome her to the Bay Area!
